There's definitely a new website coming soon. And we haven't been saying that for about 2 years. Honestly!
There's been lots of things going on - and Flash looks like it's all but dead these days. Most (well, all) development work here has shifted directly into HTML5 Canvas now. Flash is dead! Long live flash! Or not. HTML5 does much the same job, just with a bit more added pain.
So... for all your HTML5 needs, please give us a bell.

Seriously though, for the people that are doing this, just stop will you? We work hard for stuff just to have someone like you come along and make you start again. I realise I'm talking to the ether, but c'mon, can't we all be, well... nice to each other?

It's been almost a year since we first mentioned about our foray into a mobile game, originally called "Mayan Mayhem", well, we're almost there!
Due to unfolding events (i.e. the birth of the martian baby
) things have been slightly pushed back for the release of our game. But... we're almost there now, honest! Now retitled OMG: Original Mayan God
, the story is:
You are Kukulkna, the Original Mayan God. The lesser gods Ix-Chel, Chak, Ah Puch and Backlum Chaam have broken the ancient amulet of the Mayan calendar and stolen the shards to try and usurp your power as the OMG.

Flash is dead, long live Flash. Well, not really, but it certainly looks like it's well on its way out when it comes to websites and stuff unfortunately. Hence the reason we're moving into newer pastures.
HTML5 is growing in popularity... it's not perfect but with excellent frameworks like CreateJS
there's a real opportunity for some serious game development on the platform. Watch this space for further developments (and a new website in HTML5 of course!)
But don't worry! We're still doing lots of things with flash. AIR apps for mobile, web games, offline stuff, Stage3D, Starling, Nape, you name it, we're still using it!

We're very pleased to announce the kick off of a very large project with our friends at Maad Digital.
We're covered in NDA's at the moment, so can't say too much, but it's a large scale e-learning SCORM based project (in flash, of course). Should be fun for all the (martian) family! Have a look at Maads site

It's here (almost). Our first "proper" mobile game is nearing completion. Excited much?
It was about time that we released a mobile project. Our head martian worked with mobile tech "back in the day" when it was all J2ME this, and WAP that (no, really). Things have changed ever so slightly since then, and our release nearing completion is the product of an experiment gone ever so slightly beyond what it was supposed to be. Initially planned as a demo of mobile tech and a rewrite of our (surprisingly excellent) Plakka Cakka it has morphed into a full on game. Here's the premise:
The world is about to end. The Mayan Apocalypse is upon us. Forecast millennia ago by the, err, Mayans, it predicts that out world will be CAST ASUNDER. Or something like that. Anyway, you are a Mayan god. And you have snakes. And it's now your job to save the world! Battle earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, meteors and more in a physical challenge that will have you screaming for retribution.
So there you have it. Snakes, earthquakes, the end of the world. What more do you want? Stay tuned, we'll have some news soon.

Our latest game has been released! A physics platformer made for those lovely people at Digital Fibre and Grass Roots Group
Energy Hero is a unique physics platformer where the player follows the adventures of Gaz
as they explore a house and make the house more energy efficient. Take control of a character and travel around an engaging 2D world inhabited by huge spiders, rabid vacuum cleaners, manic shower heads and more! The game utilises physics to simulate loads of different things, from falling boxes to dangling wires, swings to bounce pads.
The game is being deployed in call centres around the UK for a particularly large gas and electricity supplier. Players play the game using points obtained in the real world, and uses a powerful incentive system developed by Digital Fibre and Grass Roots Group.

Sub-a-Dub, everyones favourite underwater cow-spotting game has been released! After an extremely short development period, Plastic Martians have released Sub-a-Dub available to play for free! Simple, yet extremely addictive, it shows off loads of things that make Plastic Martians great/!

A new game developed by Plastic Martians for Dubit Limited. A simple side scrolling avoid-the-walls "copter" type game, it also features multiplayer facilities and multiple game modes. Graphics were provided by the superb artists at Dubit and they certainly add a certain flair to the game!
The game was designed as a plugin to one of Dubit's wonderful online massively multiplayer worlds.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. When we released a mochified
version of Plakka Cakka
something went seriously wrong with its innards - and appeared to bork on several websites. So... after much head scratching a very quick rename was decided to the slightly less interesting Plastic Cactus
. Both games are virtually identical apart from the name, so if you see them out in the wild don't get confused! they're one and the same!
One new addition to Plastic Cactus is the inclusion of the Games Chart
widget, we're going to be monitoring its progress over the coming weeks but we're excited about the extra traffic it looks like it should generate. Head on over to www.gameschart.com

There's been loads of interesting things happening over the last few months, some exciting new projects with some exciting new people. Plakka Cakka
and Plastic Christmas
made it off the drawing board and onto your computer screens. We've also been busy with a load of other projects, all that can be said at this point is "meeow" and look at the image.... all will be revealed!!

We're very proud of a new project which went live recently, something out of the ordinary for Plastic Martians Ltd.! The project was commisioned by Turtlez Ltd.
for the end client Skillsarena Ltd. and basically consists of an online word testing application. Now this might not sound very interesting or exciting, but the project had some pretty unique elements to it:
- a complete simulation of the Office 2003 suite - complete down to individual button clicks, menus and dialog boxes
- user/test candidate can interact with the test exactly
as they would interact with the real thing
- right click actions and control key combos supported!
- written entirely in Actionscript 2 - meaning a lower Flash player threshold of flash 8
It really is a world beater in that respect! No other simulation package in Flash comes close. Users can simply log in to their tests and start interacting with them with no downloads necessary

Plastic Martians Ltd. is proud to announce the launch of it's new site! Designed to showcase our extensive Flash knowledge it combines practicality with kittens in a seamless blend of style
Have a play around with the site. We're still adding bits and changing other bits, so don't be afraid to drop us a line if you see anything wrong/would like to suggest a cool new feature. We're always glad to receive feedback from people, it makes us feel all warm and gooey inside. Unless you're reporting a bug of course, then it gets a bit messy. The site was written in Actionscript 3 using the standard development environment of the wonderful FDT Eclipse plugin from those lovely people at powerflasher.de and Eclipse itself. Graphics were actually designed in Flash 8 and the whole thing pulled together with yoghurt pots and bits, of string (well, ANT and mxmlc to be precise)

It's true, there's more games on the way! Rather than sitting doing nothing for the past 3 months we actually have been producing something relatively interesting. Things to look out for include some fantastic new games for clients such as Komodo (Extreme Ironing), Williams F1/Endemol/Futurecorp and Digital Fibre (Extreme GP). Also looming on the horizon is a long awaited update to Plastic Balls - we're hoping to get a technology demo out sometime in the next couple of months. It should be good!

A week has passed, and another game is written. Have a look at Plaque Man
the greatest Isometric pac man game in the world. Ever. Now with improved jumping ability.
Designed and developed in around 2 weeks for Fayd Solutions, the game raises the bar for quick casual gaming in Flash. That's 2 weeks from inception to completion - all design, graphics, sound and coding. We hope to reuse some of the techniques used to develop the game in future Plastic Martians developments. As ever, watch this space!

Yup, we're still here! Some teething problems with the site have been ironed out and we should be able to go full steam ahead now... with a bit of luck.
